Early Intervention / Early Childhood
What is the Early Intervention / Early Childhood Program?
The New York State Early Intervention Program (EIP) and early childhood programs are designed to provide support and services to infants and young children who have, or are at risk of having, developmental delays or disabilities. These programs aim to promote healthy development and enhance the overall well-being of children and their families.
Why is it an important regional focus?
Prioritizing New York State's Early Intervention and early childhood programs is essential for optimizing child development. These initiatives, designed for infants and toddlers, and children facing developmental challenges, provide crucial early identification and intervention during the formative years. By engaging families, fostering a supportive environment, and promoting school readiness, these programs not only benefit individual children but also contribute to broader economic and societal goals. Investing in early childhood education has lasting positive effects, preventing long-term issues, promoting equity, and enhancing overall community well-being.
What role does Pivital play?
The Pivital Public Health Partnership assists the local Public Health Departments in maintaining policies and procedures related to the administration of Early Intervention programs, Preschool, as well as Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs. Pivital also provides a forum for Health Departments to connect and share challenges, resources, and work together on solutions. Meetings are held every other month and follow a policy review schedule to review and revise the EI/EC manuals to ensure they are up to date.
